2026 Semester Weeks 9+10: Closing In
Last week, the semester class continued making progress on the cabin, completing the parapet wall, exterior insulation, and strapping. We also built a parapet wall similar to the one on the bunkhouse, allowing us to create a flat roof. Inside, we continued refining our electrical plan and began sanding and staining the plywood for the interior walls and ceiling.
We also started staining the cedar shiplap siding with an all-natural Valhalla stain and finalized a window trim detail inspired by the bunkhouse. Our client came to visit, check out the progress, and discuss some of the remaining interior details with the class.
Meanwhile, students began working on their individual projects. Drawing on the experience gained from the cabin build, they are now moving through the early stages of their own design processes with a better understanding of what it takes to bring a project from concept to construction.
