Although window styles historically are associated with architectural styles, they clearly reflect advances in manufacturing technology. This lecture will cover how window construction, design, and style were the product of our industrial heritage bringing together a history of industrialization and how that influenced window construction considering the materials – wood, glass, paint – and the finer details in the window units – single hung vs. double hung, balance systems, and hardware. The lecture will conclude with an overview of historic wood window restoration practices.
