Will McSwain is a craftsman, carpenter, timber framer, and designer with over 20 years of experience in the residential building industry. As the owner of McSwain Design Studio, his work focuses on bridging traditional building knowledge with contemporary design and construction practices, creating the next generation of heirloom vernacular homes rooted in endurance, purpose, and delight.
Will’s background spans timber framing, new construction, and historic preservation, with a particular interest in American vernacular farmhouse design and traditional building systems. He is deeply invested in the relationship between hand craft and design—bringing together woodworking, joinery, and architectural drafting to create thoughtful, durable, and practical buildings.
A graduate of the American College of the Building Arts with a specialization in Timber Framing, Will was also a member of the inaugural Yestermorrow Natural Building Certificate Program. His work is grounded in a respect for time-tested building traditions and a commitment to carrying those methods forward into modern residential construction.
Will lives with his family in Western North Carolina, where he continues to build, design, and explore the craft of building.
