Design Your Own Home

Designing your dream home can be a fulfilling endeavor. It can also be an intimidating proposition. Yestermorrow’s Home Design class was created to help guide prospective home builders through the principles of floor plans, sections, elevations, and scale modeling; if you don’t recognize those terms then you’re in the right place.

Through a mix of conversation and lecture, we’ll explore site planning, sustainability, building layout, materials and so many more features that provide a customized expression of the occupant’s lifestyle.

This course is fast-paced and we make the most of 5 days together! Students should expect to take advantage of the open studio after class time to further their projects. You can leave this class with your first draft of floor plans, elevations, site plans, and an understanding of the design process that will equip you to confidently create the home of your dreams.

Students are welcome and encouraged to use both analog and digital design tools. Students who take Intro to SketchUp the weekend prior to this course will receive 10% off both sessions.

The September session of this course will focus on Accessory Dwelling Units including but not limited to tiny houses (on wheels or foundations) and prefab homes. Projects with other architectural considerations are still welcome and will be equally progressed by this course.

For students interested in pre fab construction, we suggest taking Intro to SketchUp, Design Your Own Home, Design Reviews and the New England Prefab Factory tours. All 4 courses are scheduled consecutively starting September 9 and ending September 17, 2023. Sign up for 3 or more of the sessions and save $100 on each session. Click here to register for multiple sessions.

Discounts cannot be combined.

Reviews:

This course really sparked and fueled a lot of creativity that I had bottled up. The environment for the course is on point. -2019 Home Design Student

I accomplished more in a week than I could possibly have imagined. The strongest part of the course was being forced to pay attention to my real life project. Eric provided the information and expertise to help me get to the next level. - Jill Skillin 2023 Design Your Own Home Student
