Shipping Container and Pre-Fab Home Design
Design your own unique shipping container or modular home
In this practical design course, you’ll create a shipping container or prefab home for a real site—accounting for weather, topography, building codes, budget, and schedule. You’ll tackle the complexities of fitting HVAC, plumbing, electrical, septic, windows, and doors into a steel box, gaining a realistic understanding that goes far beyond glossy magazine spreads. The building science explored in this class is also directly applicable to conventional home design.

You'll Take Home
Students who complete all coursework will receive a professionally upgraded 3D SketchUp model, ready for review by contractors, code officials, or lenders.
Experience Level & Prerequisites
Students must have basic computer literacy and have a device that can support the latest version of SketchUp Pro and a two button mouse with a scroll wheel. Basic SketchUp skills are required.
