Design/Build Semester
A 16-week architecturally-focused design/build experience.
Students begin with an intensive in design, architecture, and drawing, collaboratively developing plans for a small, year-round structure. Once the design is approved by a client, the group transitions to the job site to build what they’ve envisioned.
The program weaves together lectures, studio work, seminars, and hands-on construction into a cohesive, multidisciplinary curriculum centered around a real-world project. The collaborative environment mirrors a professional studio or job site, offering students an authentic, real-world experience.
Students do not need to be current college students, and are NOT required to earn credits.

I am most proud of seeing my confidence grow especially when it came to using power tools, having had no formal training coming in. I was willing to jump in and try out a little of everything, and it paid off from stripping screws in reverse to comfortably and accurately making cuts on all equipment.

I'm planning to work for a builder this fall, and am applying to graduate school for architecture. This program solidified for me that I want to keep working in construction, am interested in learning more design work, and want to keep focusing on natural and high efficiency building. It also introduced me to the idea of design/build, which is something I think I'll keep being guided by.
