Freelance Designer — Bluedove Builders (Woodstock, VT)

Bluedove Builders is a residential general contractor based in Woodstock, Vermont, specializing in high-end custom remodels, additions, and new construction. We're a growing company with a steady pipeline of work - from new construction to bathroom remodels - and we're looking for a skilled freelance designer to subcontract on an ongoing, project-by-project basis.

The role

You'll produce construction details and millwork design - including custom kitchen cabinetry, built-ins, custom moldings, doors, and other custom fabrications. Working from architectural plans, our field measurements, and design intent, you'll generate clean, buildable drawings our carpenters and millwork subcontractors can execute in the shop and on site.

As the relationship develops, we'd also be open to expanding the scope - design and construction drawings for new construction and remodels.

Typical deliverables include:

• Millwork and cabinetry shop drawings with dimensions, sections, and specifications
• Construction details that resolve how elements are built and assembled
• Molding profiles, custom door details, and one-off fabrication drawings
• Cut lists or specs where helpful to the build

What we're looking for

• Strong working knowledge of millwork, cabinetry, and finish carpentry - drawings that reflect real construction means and methods, not just aesthetics
• Proficiency in SketchUp or a comparable design/drafting program (we're flexible on software, as long as your output is clear and usable by our team)
• An eye for detail and the ability to translate design intent into precise, buildable documentation
• Reliable communication and turnaround, and comfort coordinating with our project managers

The arrangement

This is a freelance/1099 subcontract role - project-based to start, with strong potential for steady, ongoing work as we grow. The arrangement is fully remote; you'll work from plans and measurements that Bluedove Builders provides.
