Essential framing and power tool skills for structures.

Learn the essential tools, terms, and techniques of carpentry while building a small structure such as a shed or playhouse. In this supportive, hands-on course, you’ll safely use a range of hand and power tools and explore the basics of house framing, layout, and the “anatomy” of a building—from floor systems to rafters. Whether you're preparing to build your own home or just starting out, you'll gain practical skills and the confidence to keep building.

Reviews

  • "I loved the feeling of community and support! Being vulnerable and learning something new can be uncomfortable, but not at Yestermorrow! The staff really care about the wellbeing of the students, not just completing the project!!!

  • "This was an incredible experience from start to finish. [The instructors] made for a fantastic team of instructors, all the students brought great attitudes to the week, and the build itself provided the right mix of challenge and a sense of accomplishment. I couldn't be happier with my experience and I can't wait to come back for another course!"

  • "The strongest part of the course was the clarity and care both instructors brought to their teaching. I always felt encouraged to ask questions, and I appreciated the time [the instructors] gave to both technical instruction and broader job site decision-making. The mix of theory, hands-on learning, and real-world examples gave me a strong foundation to move forward with my own work. The course struck a great balance between structure and adaptability, which made it easier for me to stay engaged and absorb the material."
