Ian grew up in Greensboro, Vermont. He first found his path into building after an injury forced him to leave his career as a freestyle skier. During that transition, he was fortunate to meet an exceptional builder whom he shadowed for many years, absorbing as much knowledge as possible—from energy auditing to framing and all aspects in between.

Ian continued to move through the building world, working with high-performance home builders and skilled woodworkers, further refining his craft. After leaving the talented team at Birdseye Construction, he and his wife founded Vermont Sauna. Long fascinated by sauna culture, they set out to bring more of it to Vermont, with a strong emphasis on healthy materials, thoughtful design, and craftsmanship.

In a world increasingly filled with foam and plastic, Ian and his wife strive to create saunas as sacred spaces—places of restoration and connection. They believe the world would be a better place if everyone had access to a sauna.
