2025 Semester Week 7: Yesterpoem
B is for beautiful
U is for undulate
G is for gorgeous
BUG.
It’s week one of building and
We’ve got the builder’s bug.
Burying galvanized nails
inside wooden fibers.
Stubborn knots disrupt the journey inwards.
Like termites making their way into a wooden plank,
we made our way through the layout.
From side to side, we knelt and felt.
A feeling of connection sprouts: to the motions, to the people, to our common pursuit.
Motions in patterns
of unison
and disarray.
Our collectively-constructed design binding us together.
A cool breeze caresses our skin.
Hammers banging, joists undulating; they bring forth a challenge that pushes us to get creative.
Someone writes “H is for Happy”
and the rest of us follow.
One action leads to the other and before you know it
you’ve got this poem.
Circular saws, Hammers, Indentations.
- Nails
- Overalls
- Sawhorses built by us
Someone yells ”noise!”
And everyone puts on their hearing protection and carries on.
