Winter Campus Improvement Projects

New in January 2023! At Yestermorrow, we value spaces. We think critically about how we want them to look and feel, what we need them to do, and what we want to do within those spaces. The slower winter months have seen a flurry of activity on our Vermont campus, focused on a much-needed kitchen update and expanding our indoor building capacity.

While our classes have taken a short break over the holidays, our design/build team has been hard at work constructing our newest classroom space. The indoor classroom is a portion of a hangar at the Warren Airport, a few miles up the road from our Waitsfield, VT campus. It will be home base for many of our whole structure building courses this Winter, starting with our first ever January session of the Certificate in Residential Design & Construction!

The inaugural airport hangar students will be working within a protected space, shared with other educational programs and small businesses. We've carved out our corner of the hangar, and began framing walls to enclose our "classroom" last month. The crew is putting on the final touches and it will be ready for students in the Certificate program at the end of the month. This all came to be thanks to a generous donation from Jan and Ann, a few friends of Yestermorrow who felt strongly about our mission and wanted to help us grow our capacity. One huge barrier we face in the building trades in Northern states is the weather - it can limit what we do in just about every season. Having an indoor space to build throughout the colder, windier months will greatly increase our ability to reach students on their own schedules, as well as round out our year of programming. Thanks our sponsors, we've not only made this space a reality, but also helped fund several students to come build this Winter through tuition assistance.

Meanwhile back at campus....

New year, new kitchen! Well, sort of. With more programming throughout the year, we needed more space in our kitchen to whip up our classic Yestermorrow fare. We've closed in the back porch to hold our freezer and refrigerator storage, which gave us much more space to play with in the kitchen itself. The star of the show is our brand new range hood and convection oven. Big thanks to our Facilities Manager, Brad, for spearheading the project and organizing all the moving pieces of deliveries, subcontractors, and ragtag volunteers. Whether for a short visit or a longer program, we hope to feed you in the new and improved Yester-kitchen some time soon.

Stop by off of Route 100 in Waitsfield to see our campus improvement projects in person! We're always happy to show off our campus to visitors and talk about what we do.
