Collaborate with us.

At Yestermorrow, we offer our time and skill in building a variety of projects in collaboration with local non-profits, schools, and private parties. Yestermorrow projects can be found throughout the Mad River Valley and beyond. Aside from the more visible public examples of our work, we regularly create cabinetry, concrete countertops, timber frames, yurts, renovations, tiny houses, garden sheds, earthen ovens, playhouses, and treehouses.

An integral requirement of most of our hands-on classes is the creation of a building project.  This allows students to develop their skill set while taking the course. Below you can explore the unique projects we offer.  If you are interested in one of the projects listed, please fill out the inquiry form at the bottom of this page.

We have a number of pre-designed sheds to choose from. These sturdy high quality structures are built with 2x4 framing, T1-11 siding with local rough sawn batten, and galvalume ribbed metal roofing. The bare wood siding allows the client to complete and personalize the shed themselves. The sheds are built on the Yestermorrow campus during one of our carpentry classes. See More

Timber Frame Structure

These sturdy traditional structures are built with heavy squared-off timbers. Joints are carefully hand cut and secured by large wooden pegs. Our instructors work with the client to finalize the design prior to the class. The structure is usually built here on campus, disassembled, and then reassembled at the final location. The ideal dimensions will be between 12' x 12' and 12' x 24' depending on the complexity of the joinery and will include 2-3 bents.
Estimated cost is about $1500-$2500 for timbers and $800-$1400 for design and drawings. Clients will need to have foundation in place before the beginning of the class - cost not included in the estimate above.

Treehouse Platform

Our heavy duty treehouse platforms are constructed around the trunk of one or more mature trees which serve as a base for your inspiration. Unlike childhood forts, these structures are built to withstand the test of time. Our clients have used their treehouses as workspaces, retreats, and recreational spaces.  Our instructors work with the client to finalize the design prior to the class.

Estimated cost is between $4000-$6000 which does include the design fees.
The structure is built onsite and needs to be anchored around healthy hardwood trees with at least 10” diameters.
Yestermorrow builds the platform, and the client will need to finish it on their own or hire someone else to complete it.

Handmade cabinetry adds warmth and beauty to a home. Our well-made custom cabinets are constructed from  3/4 birch plywood boxes with hardwood frames (shaker style) Due to time constraints, we limit the project size to :

2 base cabinets with doors and drawers (No finish applied)
1 or 2 wall cabinets with doors (No finish applied)

Client should provide basic cabinet drawing with dimensions.

These unique, small structures are built here on campus, during the Home Design/Build class.  Clients actively participate in the design process prior to the class. Cost will vary depending on choice of material and design. Past projects have cost between $2000 to $9000 for custom, $950 for standard 8x8 playhouse.  See More

Tiny House

Tiny houses are small dwellings that are gaining in popularity as more people recognize the wisdom of affordable and sustainable living. Often on wheels, these structures are portable. Our two week class will help the client start the process of building their own tiny house. It is important for the client to understand that we cannot guarantee full completion of the project.  The class will work to complete the shell of the structure.  Wall framing, sheathing, and window installation will generally be completed as well.  See More

Yurts are traditional structures that have been used by Eastern Nomadic cultures for over 3000 years. These round tent structures, which can be portable or permanent, consist of a rigid framework covered by a protective skin.

The modern yurt that we build at Yestermorrow is a 12’ diameter yurt that includes a wooden lattice frame, mildew-resistant canvas walls, waterproof vinyl-coated polyester roof, and a domed plexiglass skylight. Easily transportable, the structure collapses down small enough to fit in the bed of a pickup truck.  Clients can choose from a variety of color options.
Estimated cost $1700.

Stone Wall/Arches

Stone walls can be both functional and artistic. In this class, artist Thea Alvin creates arches and organic forms that enhance the natural beauty of the landscape while also providing structure to the land. Our crew of students will be working onsite.  Please note, client will be responsible for the site prep prior to the class. Cost will vary depending on choice of material and size of the project. Past projects have cost between $3000-$5000

Masonry Ovens

A masonry oven is made of high-temperature fire bricks and fire clay, made in a half dome on a surface of either brick or soapstone. This is then covered in layers of fireclay and typical mortar. They are more thermally efficient than their earthen relatives.

The oven base will need to be completed before this 3-day class and can be done as a component of the Art of Stone class.

Estimated cost is $1000-2500

Neighborhood Design/Build Studio

This is one of the most popular courses for our clients. Students will design and build a structure for a non-profit organization during their 2 week course. Past projects have included public playground structures, village green band-shells, park pavilions, compost privies, foot bridges, trail shelters, and school bus stop shelters. Structure are build on campus
