Week 8

Alice and Robby

Wednesday:

Today the group returned refreshed from fall break and ready to start the building phase. During the morning, Anastasia and Sean shared some final design and client constraints based on a weekend visit to the project site in Vershire, VT. The new design includes a north facing dormer as well as several south facing skylights to increase light to the second floor. Sean also shared that we will be constructing a small cabin in addition to the main house. The structure will be 8x12ft and we plan to fully finish it by the end of the semester. In the afternoon, a few of us made a trip to the local hardware store to pick up rockwool insulation and lumber, while the rest of the group began framing the cabin walls.

Thursday:

Goin to the store

Wood: gotta get more

Built some wall panels

Finished them up like animals

Too speedy, we took Sean by surprise

Underestimating us, we see it in his eyes

Friday:

Workin too fast

This floorpack soon to be past

Three layers of insulation,

Just trying to live up to Sean’s expectation

He shows us how to level with a grin:

Go ahead, “Just shim up your rim”

Now onto the roof we frame

Using recycled wood, mostly reclaimed

The short week has come and gone,

But more building awaits, so bring it on
