Week 6

Hi folks!

For this week’s blog post we decided to take our client’s program as a structural framework.

Instead of listing the things we did, we used the structure of “a place to … [eat, sleep, retreat]” to share some highlights:

A place to eat: Our huge outdoor tent is gone (great view of the bunk house now) and the days are getting colder. Time to move inside and enjoy some incredible breakfast muffins from the indomitable Meg & Michelle! Cinnamon doughnut muffins? Why not, let’s remix some flour.

A place to cook: we had an autumnal potluck on Sunday, October 3 (technically in Week 7)! Tessa made beef stew, tofu with cashews, blistered snow peas, and apple pie. Skizzi and Alice made some scrumptious pretzels! Euj brought ingredients for some smashing mocktails. It was a lovely evening.

A place to retreat: The students met individually with Anastasia, Euj, and Sean to discuss thoughts on our community and workload up until this point.  Great way to bond with the instructors a bit more!

A place to sleep: Someone likes conga dancing at 3 am? Do people even sleep around here any more? Let’s pull a late night and draw in all the overlooked windows we forgot in section drawings for the presentation on Wednesday!

A place to work: Finally moving onto the next stage in the design process- finalizing materials, windows/doors, interior room designs, or....do we have enough time? The question was raised if we wanted to continue and strive towards building a section of Sean’s house (we won't have time to complete it) or start a new and smaller project, like a tiny house, that we can potentially see through to the end. TBD! In the meantime, we’ve been making sawhorses in the hangar!

A place to bathe: Robby & Andreas continue to go to the Punch Bowl (the swimming hole across the street) every day. It’s 45 degrees out. Please pray for the continued attachment of their fingers to their hands.

A place to relax: On Thursday, September 30, a few of us met up to discuss the short book Undesigning the Bath, by Leonard Koren. Discussions about mud, bathing, and certain diabolical things abounded.

A place to wash: In the rain! It has precipitated both times that we were working in the hangar. No need for washing machines, but stay environmentally friendly and use Dr. Bronner’s!

Build on, comrades!
