Renovation Design

For current or future homeowners ready to shake up an existing space, this class is a crash course in a variety of topics that will empower you to tackle your own home renovation project. Throughout this course, you'll be exposed to the knowledge and skills needed to transform your home into a space that reflects your individual needs and wants.  Course content is delivered through lectures, slide shows, virtual house tours, and discussions that guide and compliment the development of your personal project.

Students are taught the design process starting with site analysis, programming, design sketches and model-making, and into orthographic drawings.  We’ll cover the essential principles of building science and the four control layers on projects at a variety of scales as well as the basic concepts of historic preservation.  Additionally, students will be exposed to the construction process and ultimately, develop a sequence of actionable tasks to see their design projects through to completion.

This course will meet on Zoom, Tuesday and Thursday evenings, from 6pm - 8pm for a total of 8 sessions.
