Anatomy of a House

View Syllabus

A home is the biggest purchase most people will ever make in their life, yet many homeowners have only a rudimentary understanding of how their house functions, and thereby, how to protect or grow that investment via regular maintenance, appropriately-timed systems improvements, and other worthwhile upgrades. This course will take you under the hood of a home, explaining the basics of thermal and moisture management, structural engineering, electrical, plumbing, HVAC and hot water systems, weatherization and energy retrofits, renewable energy options, and much more. You’ll learn how to identify and correct problems before they result in damage, when to invest in upgrades, and how to reduce energy use. Bring information and questions about your own home.

Once again, Yestermorrow does not disappoint! The course instructor and content of 'Anatomy of a House' exceeded my expectations and has left me poised to take other courses interest me. - Alicia, 2018
