Instructors will review the properties of green wood, provide an introduction to hand tools used in traditional chair making, demonstrate a variety of woodworking techniques, and result in a green ladder back chair with a woven seat. Students will begin the process of making a two-slat ladder-back chair from an oak or ash log using centuries-old tools and techniques. We will begin by splitting out rough parts using wedges and a froe, then shaping the fresh green wood with a drawknife and shaving horse.
