Design Build Apprentice

Community Rebuilds is seeking an inspired, driven individual with a passion for affordable and sustainable housing. The Design Build Apprentice works to contribute to the housing crisis and climate crisis by contributing to both the design and build while gaining valuable experience bringing a project from concept to creation.

The Design Build Apprentice will work alongside and under supervision of the Drafting Instructor and Site Supervisor. The responsibilities and benefits are as follows:

General Responsibilities
Perform 1700 hours of service between
Attend AmeriCorps Orientation and meetings
Participate in AmeriCorps and Community Rebuilds events and community projects

Assignment Responsibilities
Draft thorough and accurate construction documents
Collect bids from contractors and subcontractors
Create project timelines, budgets, and material takeoffs
Oversee the budget for each project, ensuring accurate accounting
Research zoning and coding requirements
Facilitate a cohesive relationship between the administrative staff and the build team
Participate in all building tasks involved with foundation to finish construction
Assist the instructor/supervisor on site
Advise, mediate issues, and field questions for interns, volunteers, and homeowners
Maintain the buildsite cleanliness and organization
Supervise the use of tools and maintain inventory list

Desired Experience
Degree or 2-4 years experience in a related field preferred (Architecture, Engineering)

Compensation and Benefits
Living Stipend $1,558 paid monthly ($18,700/service year)
Education Award Upon Completion - $7,395* which can be used towards vocational training programs like Yestermorrow or towards existing student loans.
3 weeks variable time off, plus all federal holidays, and 4 weeks of site closures.**
