Campus Life, Meals, and Lodging

Attending a Yestermorrow course is a unique retreat experience! Your time at Yestermorrow will be an immersive and enriching experience. We typically recommend that students stay on campus and participate in the meal plan so that they have more time to dedicate towards their coursework and connecting with the Yestermorrow community.

On this page, you'll find details of campus life, a campus mapour meal plans, and lodging options for our main campus in Waitsfield VT.

You can find additional information about life at Yestermorrow on our FAQ page.

Campus Life

At Yestermorrow you will find a friendly, hard-working, engaging, and creative learning community. Outside the classroom, mealtimes and off-hours provide an opportunity to interact with students in your class and from other classes, as well as with instructors and staff. The discussions and professional networking that occur outside of the classroom are an added bonus and are often reported to be as beneficial as the classes themselves.

The Yestermorrow campus is located in the heart of the Mad River Valley on the unceded territory of the Western Abenaki tribes. The area is known for it's ample outdoor recreation opportunities - most notably skiing and mountain biking. “The Valley” sits in the geographical center of the state, one hour southeast of the state’s prominent city, Burlington, and 30 minutes southwest of Montpelier, the state’s capital. The region has a vast collection of historic villages, a beautiful, bucolic landscape, and endless recreational possibilities. Each season is enriched with performing arts, cultural and sporting events, and festivals.

While Yestermorrow classes are intensive and don’t leave students a lot of free time, the campus offers options for activity and entertainment. The school library is open 24 hours a day with a large selection of books, periodicals, and videos. In the summertime, the surrounding woods offer quiet getaway spots, and in the evening students often gather around the fire pit or in the kitchen for an impromptu jam session. The lawn outside the main building frequently hosts games of soccer or Frisbee. The campus hosts trails to explore year-round. Along the nearby Mad River, there are many swimming holes to enjoy, stunning vistas, and great recreational opportunities abound.

Meal Plans

As participants in a Yestermorrow educational experience, your mind and creative spirit are nourished in our courses and workshops. Our in-house meal program provides your body with wholesome nourishment as well. The rationale is threefold:

  • We believe your educational experience is more productive and efficient without the challenge of cooking, ordering, or searching for food.
  • Just as our curriculum stresses sustainability with regard to land use, we walk the talk of sustainability by purchasing ingredients consciously.
  • Eating is a great enabler of community - around the table is where ideas and values are shared, where friendships blossom, where we laugh, and where we fully integrate our experiences.

When you register for our on-campus courses, you have the option to sign up for meals. In order to simplify the meal sign-up process, we have created discounted meal plan options that correspond to each specific course schedule. You will automatically be given the option for the full meal plan option that corresponds with your class.

Our kitchen is happy to accommodate the following dietary restrictions: vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free (non-Celiac), and dairy-free. All food is prepared on shared equipment and we cannot guarantee that food is allergen-free for those with severe allergies. Students who have more complex dietary requirements/preferences, or those who would like to prepare their own meals, will have access to a shared, full-service kitchenette.

For week-long or longer courses, the full Meal Plan is $55 per day and includes 3 meals/day unless otherwise noted. For 2 day courses, the full meal plan includes lunch and dinner Saturday and breakfast and lunch on Sunday for $65. Every course has the option to sign up for just lunches for $20 per day.

This information is provided to help students understand pricing for meals. The meal plan options that are appropriate for your course will appear on the course registration form.

A la carte meals are available for an additional cost - Breakfast is $13, Lunch is $23 and Dinner is $28. Please email [email protected] if you need additional flexibility in the meal plan.

Meal Program Cancellation Policy

All meal reservations and cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance.

Meal reservations must be made prior to your arrival. Any changes or cancellations must be made 24 hours in advance. If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance or do not show up for a meal, you will not be refunded.

If you commit to a meal plan in advance and then opt to cancel after the start of your course, you will be charged the a la carte price for the meals you had already eaten.

Lodging Options

Campus housing options include dormitory rooms, cabins and camping. You have the option to select which housing type you'd like and Yestermorrow will coordinate specifics based on availability. For example, you can sign up to stay in a cabin but Yestermorrow staff will assign your specific cabin. Unfortunately, we are not able to provide single occupancy housing.

No pets are permitted on campus.

Generally, students check in on the day their course begins and check out the day their course ends. While registering for a course online, you will be able to select from the various lodging options with the number of nights that correspond to your course start and end date. We are able to offer additional nights on a space available basis. If you need to check in early or late, please email [email protected] to coordinate. If a lodging option is not available at registration, that indicates that it is full at that time. Contact us to be placed on a lodging wait list.

All students staying have access to shared facilities in the main building and the bunkhouse. The bunkhouse, which is conveniently located near the cabins and camping area, features two bathrooms with showers, a lounge space and a small kitchenette. In the main building, students will have access to a laundry room, library, additional bathroom/shower facilities and fully appointed kitchen. Wi-fi is available throughout the campus. There is space in both building for people who are camping and in the cabins to store toiletries and other small items they may not want to keep with them.
