Skip Dewhirst
Bio
Skip has been a professional woodworker for over 30 years and has been been an instructor at Yestermorrow since 1998. He has taught over 100 classes in furniture making, woodworking, timber framing and natural building at Yestermorrow and has also taught timber framing and natural building workshops at Rocky Mountain Workshops, Dartmouth College, Rancho Mastatal, Bona Fide, and Mao Organic Farm (Colorado, New Hampshire, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, and Hawaii, respectively). Skip particularly enjoys the diversity of students that are drawn to the Yestermorrow experience.
A lifelong guitarist, Skip most recently took on the challenge of designing and building a custom acoustic guitar. He considers this the pinnacle of his woodworking career to date, and is excited to continue to pursue this passion. Skip strives to create custom designed hand made instruments that motivate players to push their artistry to a higher level. Skip brings his dedication and passion to designing, building, and crafting with wood to the courses he teaches and the things that he builds. He loves sharing these skills because "seeing the sense of pride on students' faces as they make something is amazing.” Showing others how to create with their hands gives him great satisfaction. When he is not teaching, Skip can be found building timber frame homes and barns, in his wood shop making custom furniture or hand made instruments, or roaming the Vermont woods in search of wild mushrooms.
