conservation, and agriculture. Since 1985, VYCC staff have provided valuable work and
learning opportunities to youth and young adults from across the country and from

Job Summary
The Build Project Supervisor is the perfect opportunity for a carpenter looking to grow
their skill set, manage a project and worksite, and lead others in a unique and
challenging setting. This person will be the lead on-site builder and supervisor for the
construction of a 600 square foot, high efficiency, off grid, 4-season hut VYCC is
building in conjunction with The Vermont Huts Association (VHA). This position will be the
project leader for a VYCC Pro Crew made up of young adults (18-26) beginning their
careers in the building trades. They will manage the technical and logistical aspects of
the build itself, maintaining a high standard of quality, efficiency, and site safety.

Program Overview
VYCC’s Conservation Program engages young people in hands-on projects that
benefit Vermont’s environment and communities. The work of a Conservation Crew
includes trail construction and maintenance, carpentry, water quality improvement,
and forest management.

Essential Functions:

Project Accomplishments
 Manage day to day construction work including framing, insulation, door and
window installation, roofing, trim, flooring, siding, and finish work with a crew of four
 Operate and instruct others on a variety of power tools: drills, drivers, circular,
miter, and table saws, etc.
 Lead others to maintain a clean and safe jobsite and work environment
 Ensure efficient, timely, and high quality production informed by VYCC and
VHA staff
 Follow VYCC policies and procedures, program goals, and foster the VYCC
mission while on the jobsite
 Maintain an emotionally and physically safe work environment
 Maintain regular communication with Crew Leader, VYCC staff, and VHA staff

Program Logistics
 Work with VYCC and VHA staff to source, order, deliver, and prep materials
 Transport tools and equipment to and set up worksite
 Assist in crew training
 Assist in logistical preparations for crew and project

Required Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
 Commitment to the Vermont Youth Conservation Corps mission
 Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record for at least 3 years
 Ability to operate certain types of equipment applicable to work projects
 Ability to spend long days in the field and to work evenings and weekends when
required
 Minimum 2 years of carpentry experience- framing, finish work, roofing, siding
 Ability to read and interoperate building plans
 Good problem solving skills
 Ability to manage worksite and employees on the job with a focus on safety
 Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate with crew, project
manager, client, and subcontractors
 Ability to adapt to change and move outside of comfort zones

Preferred Qualifications:
 Knowledge of or experience with working in the backcountry
 Experiencing working with or leading young adults

Our Workplace
Build Pro Crews spend much of their time outdoors, working as a team while also
interacting with project sponsors, community members, and VYCC staff. Our Build Pro
Crew Lead Builder position requires long days outdoors in the elements and the
potential for camping while completing project work

Compensation & Benefits:
 $684/week salary, exempt from overtime
