What is a Ladderback Chair? How is it made?

Start with a green (freshly cut) log.
Split it with a mallet and a froe.

Shape the legs and rungs with drawknives and spoke shaves, while sitting astride a shave horse.

Create beautiful wood shavings (great for kindling).

 Assemble the components (and celebrate!).

Shape and steambend the ladderback slats, add cloth tape to the seat, and voila!
