This course is an introduction to basic carving methodologies via hand tools only. Beginning with green wood from the Yestermorrow forest, students will learn how to properly harvest material and carve it into a beautiful and useful spoon or ladle for their lifetime. We’ll explore the lineage of spoon carving and its symbolism in contemporary movements for change. It’s a spoon, but so much more. Students should feel comfortable in learning how to safely use sharp tools such as an axe, straight knives, crooked knives, drawknives, and froes. This class will require students to be able to lift at least 20lbs.
