Phius Certified Consultants Training Program

Yestermorrow is pleased to partner with Passive House Institute US (Phius) and offer the Phius Certified Consultant Training program.

The passive house concept represents today’s highest energy standard with the promise of slashing the heating energy consumption of buildings by an amazing 90%. In the realm of super energy efficiency, passive house presents an intriguing option for new and retrofit construction in residential, commercial, and institutional projects.

This Training Program covers the content and exercises that teach the principles and tools of passive building design and consulting. The course will train the participant to put measurable and verifiable low energy metrics and holistic systems design into practice to create highly comfortable, extremely efficient buildings with exceptional indoor air quality at an affordable cost.  Energy, design, engineering, construction, and other related professionals will be provided with the skills necessary to design and consult on certifiable building projects that meet the PHIUS+ 2015 Passive Building Standard for all climate zones of North America.

The program is offered in 2 phases. Phase I includes self-guided instructional modules with 50-60 hours of content. This phase is intended to be completed over 2-4 months, following the suggested course schedule. It covers the Phius Certification process, building science, building assemblies, HVAC systems, baseload and renewable energy systems, and passive building physics. After completing Phase I, students will take the Phase I exam which consists of multiple choice and multi-select questions. It is focused on building science principles, Phius Certification standards and requirements, and applied passive building physics through calculation questions. It is recommended but not required to finish Phase I before starting Phase II. You will receive access to the training modules within 7 days of registering for the course.

Phase II consists of instructor-led live sessions with a cohort of other CPHCs-in-training at Yestermorrow. This phase is focused on putting Phase I concepts into practice. It includes group design exercises, completing a WUFI Passive energy model on a sample project, and guidance on the profession of being a Phius Certified CPHC. At the end of Phase II, students will take the design exam which is due 4 weeks after the end of the course.

The exams are not required to take the course but you must pass the exams to receive your certification.

Participants will need to bring a laptop capable of running the WUFI software and have basic Excel knowledge.

This is a Passive House Institute US training course being held at Yestermorrow's facilities. Tuition is $2450 for non-members and $2400 for PHAUS members. Please indicate on your application if you are a member of a local PHIUS Chapter.

Also offered at Yestermorrow: 4-day Phius Certified Builders Training

"Why should one go to Yestermorrow for this? Simple answer: it is absolutely phenomenal and intense, as this is the only course now that teaches all modules in person on 8 consecutive days. People are on site 24/7, form study and discussion groups beyond the class time and prep for exam together. You talk bonding…the food is exceptional and the people who show up for this are some of the smartest and most unique. Yestermorrow truly attracts exceptional individuals. The classes took the passive discussion to new heights in terms of quality and larger context, my favorite place to teach it and aside from that, Vermont is just stunningly beautiful - an unforgettable learning experience with a retreat flavor." ~ Katrin Klingenberg, Executive Director PHIUS
