In this course, students will be guided step by step through the process of painting their own mural.
There has been a recent trend towards hand-painted wallpapers and murals in both private and commercial spaces. This is a traditional and intuitive practice, and the inclination to decorate your home is a deeply human one. People have painted on the walls since Lascaux. Unfortunately, much of the time, the wrong materials are used or the method is unclear and the result ends up looking very unprofessional. (We’ve all been to that pizza parlor or hair salon where we just wished they hadn’t done it!) In this course, you will learn best practices for creating a hand-painted mural, a timeless and polished finished product worthy of any interior. We will discuss responding to the space, marking up a design, creating a client proposal, transferring it onto the wall, painting techniques, gold leafing, finishing, and photography.
Virtual courses will take place via zoom on Tuesdays starting July 7 - August 4 from 5:30-8:30 pm.
During the first session, the instructor will cover material selection so that students can purchase paint and other materials on their own. Students should be able to acquire all materials from a local hardware store for approximately $250.
