How to Design and GC your Kitchen, Bath Renovation

Kitchens and bathrooms are the most complicated rooms to design or redesign. Each student in this course will choose one of those rooms on which to focus, and move through the entire renovation process; brainstorming ideas, creating a design plan, learning the essential components for each space and coordinating its implementation with the necessary trades.

We’ll start with the basics of kitchen & bathroom layouts, as well as the all important planning guidelines. Flow and function of the spaces will be discussed along with how to sequence phases of your renovation. Also being addressed are considerations that must be made for new and existing fixtures, including locations and finishing details.  Material selection will be covered in terms of cost and life cycle assessment and accessibility elements to accommodate potential different users. By the end of the class, students will be able to confidently lead their own kitchen or bathroom renovation and have the knowledge of how to coordinate the necessary sub-contractors
