Concrete Fabrication

View Syllabus

This class advances “flat-work” techniques and other skills gained in the Concrete Countertop course. Students explore how to create 3-dimensional concrete forms by fabricating & casting two integrated concrete sinks, each using different methods and mix designs. The first sink is a classic mix design, pre-fabricated by Stone Soup. Students will work together to design and create a custom sink for a client.*

Throughout the course, students will design and fabricate their own planter to be cast on the second day, and taken out of its form on the third day to bring home. This planter is an opportunity to explore techniques used in real concrete fabrication without risk of failure, success is individual growth of process and knowledge. Students have total creative freedom on the design of their planter as long as it fits within a 12" cube and is under 40 lbs.
