Basic Construction Cost Estimating (Online)

Cost is the major driver for construction projects. Developing construction cost estimating skills are essential for all individuals in the design and building trades. Developing an appropriate cost estimate for a project can lead to a successful project for both the customer (end user) and the provider.

If you're new to construction cost estimating or if you'd like to hone your skills as you learn best practices, this course is for you. This is an introductory level construction cost estimating course which empowers you to develop a total project cost. The sessions include guidance on the following topics:

  • work breakdown structure
  • reading construction documents (blueprints)
  • quantity takeoffs
  • crews and labor
  • equipment and material costing 
  • subcontractor costing
  • overhead
  • profit and bond calculations, and
  • owners costs for a total project cost

The 6 online sessions will take place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00 PM from April 6 through April 22.

 

Please note: This course will utilize excel spreadsheet files and therefore the student will need a computer with the excel program in order to download the excel spreadsheets and crunch numbers. Also, a hand-held calculator will come in handy for other course exercises.
