Youth Construction Instructor

Position Overview
ReSOURCE is an innovative non-profit organization with the mission of environmental stewardship, job skill training and poverty relief. ReSOURCE’s YouthBuild program is affiliated with YouthBuild USA and provides youth between the ages of 16 and 24 with job skills, leadership training, and an opportunity to complete their secondary education. The Construction Instructor will provide valuable job skills and safety training to YouthBuild students, and develop and lead construction projects on community based service sites. This full time (40 hours a week) position reports to the YouthBuild Program Manager.

This position is a 40 hour per week position.
Goal of Position
Help design and deliver a YouthBuild construction training program that engages students, imparts transferrable skills, and serves as a national model for success.
Ensure YouthBuild students leave the program career and college ready with a solid technical skills background and an ability to use new skills in a variety of work settings.
Develop and lead affordable housing and community infrastructure projects that reinforce construction skills training and address community needs.
Provide job skills training in the areas of safety, tool use, carpentry, and work readiness.
Mentor YouthBuild students and serve as a role model for employability skills.

Essential Functions
Ability to stand and bend throughout the work day.
Ability to walk up and down a flight of stairs regularly throughout the work day.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds daily and up to 200 pounds occasionally using equipment.
Ability to safely use power, hand tools and operate equipment.
Ability to properly use personal and protective equipment.
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
Ability to supervise and teach others in a professional, friendly and direct way.
Ability to communicate effectively with customers and staff in English.

Position Responsibilities
Supervise and Support YouthBuild Students
Maintain safe worksite and ensure safety by following and enforcing all ReSource and OSHA safety policies and regulations.
Role model professionalism for students, trainees and volunteers.
Train and support YouthBuild students on the worksite; evaluate and recognize trainee progress.
Serve as public ambassador for ReSource, YouthBuild and AmeriCorps.
Participate in ReSource, YouthBuild and AmeriCorps training, service projects, and other activities.
Provides individual and group instruction to student learners.
Develops curriculum and instructional materials that supports each student’s academic goals.
Reviews student achievements, goals and plans regularly.
Maintains professional standards of confidentiality.
Assist with information sessions, applicant interviews and mental toughness orientations.
Work in collaboration with YouthBuild staff to create learning opportunities for students across program training areas.
Report to the YouthBuild Program Manager on student and project progress.
Minimum Qualifications
3 or more years experience in the construction trades.
OSHA-10 Certification Preferred
NCCER Instructor Certification Preferred.
Demonstrated supervisory and leadership experience.
Experience teaching or training youth, experience working with learning disabilities preferred.
