Development Coordinator

This position is responsible for strengthening fundraising capacity for Yestermorrow Design/Build School. Working with the Executive Director, and consulting the Board of Directors and the Outreach Coordinator, the person in this position will be responsible for planning and coordinating all aspects of funds development for the School. This person will provide direction and implementation on all fundraising initiatives including special events, major gifts, planned giving, sponsorships, alumni development, donor cultivation and grant writing. The Development Coordinator will identify, organize and manage the fundraising activities with a focus on new opportunities to obtain ongoing and increased support from corporations, public and private organizations, and individuals. The Development Coordinator will assist with Board and Volunteer coordination as it relates to fundraising and events. One focus of this person will be to strengthen our scholarship programs including the BIPOC and Women’s Scholarship funds, in a major initiative to increase access to our programs.

PRIMARY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Planning 

• Develop and implement a comprehensive annual resource development plan with strategies for donors and prospects in each constituent group including: individuals, alumni, organizations, corporations, etc. and other areas as directed by the Executive Director and the Board of Directors. 

• Provide frequent reports to the ED and the Board which measure progress towards achieving the plan. 

• Broaden Yestermorrow’s fundraising approach by developing a coordinated plan that includes planned giving, solicitation of bequests, and endowment programs. This position will have the potential to work with consultants, study feasibility for campaigns, coordinate events, and perform other duties as appropriate.

Grant requests and administration 

• Assist Executive Director with researching and writing grants.

• Provide timely reporting and ensure compliance as required by grant award documentation.

• Administer draw requests for any funding sources which operate through a “draw down” or reimbursement process. 

Gifts Cultivation

• Create and implement strategies for donor development and relationship cultivation to provide a diverse and sustainable funding base.

• Keep up-to-date on current fundraising programs, practices and procedures used in the nonprofit sector.

• Create and implement a major gifts program, planned giving program, and volunteer giving program.

• Identify and pursue new sources of corporate and foundation funding. 

• Build and maintain relationships with major donors of all types, develop strategies for solicitation, and coordinate the solicitation by other affiliate staff, board or volunteers as appropriate. 

• Create and update collateral materials to support gift cultivation.

• Develop and implement in coordination with the Executive Director and the Outreach Coordinator all aspects of direct donor mailings, appeal letters, and other communication approaches as needed. 

• Ensure that the donor database information is current and accurate. 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

• B.A./B.S., with a graduate degree preferred, with an emphasis or concentration in business, communitications, english, marketing or public relations or philanthropic studies.

• Two – five years professional development and fundraising experience, preferably in a non-profit setting.

• Advanced PC skills and expert proficiency in Google Suite (Donor database experience desirable).

• Desire to work as part of a team and willingness to promote the principles and views of Yestermorrow Design/Build School.

• Ability to work with minimal supervision – self-motivated, disciplined, confident, and with attention to detail

• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.

• Ability to work well with people from all backgrounds with varying degrees of experience. 

• Ability to coordinate, inspire, train, motivate, challenge, and supervise volunteers. 

• Confident in public speaking, meeting with donors and representing the School, and able to express ideas verbally and in writing clearly, enthusiastically, and concisely. 

Base Pay Starting at $23/hour plus generous benefit package.
