Enjoy the morning wandering around the Warren Town village. Meet at the Warren Town Hall parking lot (42 Cemetery Rd, Warren) and begin the walk to three completely different gardens. Complete the journey at the Pitcher Inn with a boxed lunch from the Warren Store. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and appropriate weather attire.
Historic Mad River Village Home – A lovely historic home on the eastern bank of the Mad River in Warren. These gardens highlight the surrounding natural ledge formations as well as the stonework that flanks the house and connects it to the ledge. There are rock gardens, flower gardens and a large recently planted mixed hedgerow with native and flowering trees, shrubs, grasses, perennials and bulbs. The gardens also connect the house with a very special sleeping cottage.
Historic Covered Bridge House – A lovely historic home on the western bank of the Mad River in Warren. This property also boasts extensive natural ledge formations as well as stonework. A charming bunkhouse rounds out the property, creating garden and hardscaping opportunities. Remnants of foundations and stonewalls lost to floods remain throughout the site, and create the bones for much of the garden.
The Mill House – Another village house on the western bank of the Mad River, directly adjacent to the historic crib dam. This renovated home houses an historic pump house and is referred to as the Mill House. Extensive gardens on all sides of the house as well as mature tree plantings give this property plenty of visual interest. A sweet guest house nestled into a woodland garden completes the picture.
