High Performance Buildings for the Trades: Practical Methods for Energy Efficient Buildings

Led by practicing experts in the field with a passion for education, this course uses a combination of full-scale models, hands-on practice, small-group discussion and exercises, and large-group presentations to look at air sealing from all angles, including: evaluating risks and opportunities in the building; designing details and scoping the project; selecting, sourcing, and installing materials; testing and evaluating results; and working with subcontractors and allied professionals.

Using PHPP in Passive House Design and Certification

Location: Burlington Electric Department

In this three-day course, participants will learn how to use the PHPP for residential building design and certification.  Participants will be guided step-by-step through the relevant worksheets, while learning the correct conventions for measurements and calculations.  Proper documentation will also covered in detail.  A case study will provide participants with practical experience in completing and documenting PHPP calculations for building certification.

Thermal Bridge Calculations

December 14 - 15, 2017. 9:00am - 5:00pm each day
Location: Burlington Electric Department
 
In this two-day course, participants will learn the fundamentals of thermal bridging calculations for wood-framed construction.  Common junction details and their modeling conventions will be examined. Modeling techniques will be taught using Therm. Participants will be given the opportunity to perform calculations and have them reviewed in class.
