Kiya Vega-Hutchens is from the Lower East Side. She was raised in an ideological counter culture community that included the NYC punk scene, Nuyorican artists, and the reclaiming of abandoned buildings and community gardens. She is a proud graduate of Yestermorrow’s Woodworking Certificate program and holds a BA in Environmental Chemistry from Middlebury College. While organizing around climate justice with multiple grassroots organizations in NYC, she became interested in developing natural building skills to promote community resiliency. She works with New Frameworks as an apprentice carpenter. In her free time, she loves to experiment with vegan cooking, explore sci fi, and go hiking with her pup, Hobbes.
