Gerard grew up in Garden City, Michigan where he spent his youth playing hockey and baseball. On long family road trips, he would pass the time spotting and identifying different birds of prey. Gerard’s love of exploring the outdoors blossomed while attending his family’s annual camping trip floating down Michigan's Muskegon River. Gerard believes in bravely following his curiosity. After high school, Gerard enrolled in the Firefighter Academy and EMT program at Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan, where he also worked as a photo editor for the school’s newspaper. Gerard moved to Nashville, Tennessee to study elementary education at Tennessee State University, before moving back to Michigan in 2012 and promptly falling in love with the culture and environment of Northwest lower Michigan.
Gerard’s curiosity has now led him down a new path, and straight to Yestermorrow. He plans on learning about permaculture and natural home design/build, with the goal of using these new skills to help tackle the affordable housing challenges in Michigan.
